BA Hons Psychology


The Department of Psychology at Bharati College offers a B.A. (Hons) Psychology program that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to understand human behavior scientifically. This course sensitizes students to understand their personality, and tries to inculcate various personal and psychological skills. It shapes students’ thinking in a manner that they can describe and explain human behavior within a scientific paradigm.

Through a dynamic mix of classroom teaching, research projects, seminars, workshops, and field visits, the department ensures a holistic learning experience. Students gain insights into contemporary psychological issues while developing analytical and interpersonal skills.

After their B.A. (Hons.) in Psychology, students should be able to:

  • Acquire basic professional skills pertaining to psychological testing, assessment and counselling
  • Use skills in specific areas related to chosen specialization (e.g. cognitive, industrial-organizational, clinical, counselling, health, educational, social, community).
  • Connect theory with personal experiences and varied applied settings.
  • Tolerate ambiguities and appreciate the limitations of the discipline, while critically analyzing conflicting theories and approaches.
  • Understand varied socio-cultural contexts, remaining mindful of indigenous traditions
  • Cultivate an ethical mindset, including a strong work ethic, being mindful of implications of research using human participants

Through the course, the students learn:

  • Psychology as a discipline, and its core concepts
  • To demonstrate understanding of fundamental psychological processes in human beings
  • To grasp models of behaviour, perception, memory and learning.
  • To understand basic professional skills pertaining to psychological testing, assessment and counselling.
  • To use skills in specific areas related to chosen specialization (e.g. cognitive, industrial-organizational, clinical, counselling, health, educational, social, community).
  • To connect theory with personal experiences and varied applied settings.
  • To understand how psychology can be applied to solve problems facing humankind.
  • To commit to health and wellbeing at different levels (e.g. individual, organization, community, society).
  • To develop skills of communication, negotiation, team work, effective presentation, etc.

  • To develop positive attributes such as empathy, compassion, optimism, social participation, and accountability.
