Green Campus

Green initiatives independently as well as through the help from various NGO’s and some companies in Bharati College are being continuously promoted throughout. We believe that working unethically and unsustainably degrades the quality of our affairs in a holistic manner. Therefore we have undertaken several steps in this manner in ensuring to include such sustainable ways in which we can make our campus cleaner, greener and ethical.

Solid Waste Management

Our College has two operational composting pits where organic and bio-degradable wastes from canteen and hostel mess are being dumped, the manure prepared from as a result is using in college.

Incinerators

The college has also purchased 5 incinerator machines in 2016 for disposal of menstruation pads. The machines were installed in Girls toilets and Staff toilets.

Waste Recycling System

The college has signed MOU with Green-O-Tech India for paper waste recycling in October, 2018. The waste paper generated in the college annually is collected by Green-O-Tech India.

In 2019-20, we also conducted a drive, whereby old but useful library books were opened to students for a nominal charge. Students bought 231 books in total. The other damaged books were given to Green-O-Tech for recycling.

Rain Water Harvesting

There are three operational structures of RWH in our campus, one being operational since 30th August 2003. Because of RWH structures the water table has increased by 6”-7” in comparison to neighbouring areas. The quality of water, has also improved.

Energy Conservation

10 solar lamp posts have been installed in our campus by Sonner solar company in 2009. We have also installed 120 LED bulbs in College library to save energy.

ROLE OF PALAASH, THE ECO CLUB OF BHARATI COLLEGE

Palaash, The Eco Club of Bharati College has received immense support from our college in conducting annual fests and various other activities throughout the year. Palaash is like an extended hand of Bharati College to achieve its objectives in this endeavour. To name some of our most determined activities, Palaash conducts its annual fest Green Fun, since 2015, which invites participation from students from our college as well as other colleges. We also conduct annual Plantation Drive and have been doing it since 2015 in collaboration with Sanrakshan NGO.

Apart from that we conduct timely workshops, seminars and competitions like poster-making & best out of waste throughout the year to involve students and sensitizing them towards the importance of environment.

Apart from that, in year 2019-20, we put close attention to sustainable menstruation and conducted two workshops on this emerging issue thereby encouraging students to use organic and biodegradable pads and menstrual cups, thus also breaking some of the myths associated with them. We also collaborated with brand Sirona which offered menstrual cups at such an affordable price, just for students of Bharati College.

On November 17, 2019 we took composting to a society in Rajendra Place, organised a common session on composting and waste segregation and then visited households to explain what composting is, how can they do it at their homes and made them sign a pledge!

Not only this but we keep a check on the waste segregation by our canteen and hostel mess, making sure they dump their biodegradable waste daily into the compost bin which is being operational for quite a long time now.

Thus Bharati College extends full support to the Sustainable practices that only not makes our campus look vibrant and fresh but also extends its support to a much bigger cause, i.e., in maintaining the hygiene of our Mother Earth and help keeping her clean and not to pollute her in any manner as part of our college’s day to day activities. We also promise to keep walking on this path thereby making better these initiatives already undertaken as well as incorporating other activities in this endeavour.
