Name of assignment or project: Technical assistance for IDA assisted ICDS Systems Strengthening and Nutrition Improvement Project (ISSNIP) Year: March 2014 – Nov 2015 Location: Delhi Client: Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), Government of India Main project features: MWCD has initiated several measures to bring a strong focus on child nutrition and development. Conceptualizing the ISSNIP is one of its unique initiatives that complements the Government’s larger efforts and is aligned with the key decisions to support 200 high burden districts. A consortium led by PwC in association with CINI and IIHMR is managing the TA to provide support, guidance and assistance in achieving the key objectives of the Phase 1 of ISSNIP across the four key components: · Component 1: Institutional and Systems Strengthening · Component 2: Community mobilization and behavior change communication (BCC) · Component 3: Piloting convergent nutrition actions · Component 4: Project management, technical assistance, monitoring & evaluation. The TA support is intended to strengthen the leadership and operational capacities at different levels, in the areas of training, monitoring systems and convergent actions. We will also support the design and conduct a range of specific pilots to generate concrete evidence for approaches that can subsequently be scaled up to improve programme outcomes. Main project features: This project documentedchildren’s behavior and learning outcomes during self-directed play at twopremiere Cincinnati playscapes, one at Cincinnati Nature Center and the otherone at the Arlitt PlayScape on the University of Cincinnati campus. Theseplayscapes are environments focused on natural elements that were designedspecifically to elicit play and inquiry among children. The research projectaims were to investigate:
1)children’s behavior and movement patterns in the playscapes;
2)children’s scientific thinking that may occur during play; and
3) the relationship between timespent in the playscapes and children’s attitudes about science.

Activities performed: Viewed video data of children’s play andinteractions within the two playscape settings, following the analysis methodology,and provided interpretations of the video with regard to preschool sciencelearning.
